That’s right, folks, we say the S-E-X word here. I know, I know—” he’ll say, waving away imagined outcries of horror. “But, believe it or not, the Bible actually says God created sex to be good!” And then he’ll give you a moment to process this universe-shattering tidbit. Lord, When Did We Call You a Right Wing Whack Job?
Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’
-Matthew 25:44-45
Lord?
When did we see you on the streets, crying out for justice? When did we call you lazy? When did we ignore what you were saying, or rationalize it, or excuse it? When did we sit by while you were being murdered? Read the full post »

Before You Quote Martin Luther King Jr.
In times of racial unrest, quoting Martin Luther King Jr. becomes a national past time, and every person with a social media account becomes a fine scholar of his most obscure quotes. The same people who defended Selma‘s exclusion from the Academy Awards in February now scatter his pearls of wisdom like debate kill shots.
Often, his quotes are used like a switch to chastise the timbre the march for equality he once championed has taken on. When cars are set aflame in Baltimore or windows broken in Ferguson, these sudden aficionados of Dr. King’s works will tut-tut the protestors with anguished cries of “This is not what Dr. King would have wanted!” and exasperated sighs that he is most surely “rolling in his grave” Read the full post »

Matching The Avengers With Their Favorite CCM Band
The Avengers: Age of Ultron will come soaring into theaters in May, and with it, many of our questions will finally be answered. Why is Iron Man fighting the Hulk? Who made Ultron and for what purpose? What is this accent and why? But the movie will (presumably) not answer which Avenger listens to which contemporary Christian band. For that, you have to read this. Read the full post »

Edits On Your Draft of “The Gospel of John”
Dear John,
Thanks for submitting your manuscript, The Gospel of John, for consideration for publication. I think this is a very interesting story that will have a lot of appeal for our readers! I made a few edits to your initial draft. Get back to me with your thoughts and we’ll move forward. Thanks!
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Love this opening, but might be a little vague? Our readers like to keep it practical. Read the full post »
